To Perform Precision Digitizing

  1. Select Cogo Digitizer from the Tools menu.

    The Cogo Digitizer dialog opens.

  2. Select the type of edge you are drawing from the Mode list box or select the appropriate icon at the bottom of the menu.

For the Place Tangent Arc by Edge and Place Tangent Arc by Center tools select the Arc Radius and Arc Angle check boxes and enter the appropriate values.

  3. If you want to record your input commands in the Cogo Editor Command list box, turn on Send Input to Cogo Editor.

If turned off, parcel boundaries are placed in the design file as you draw them. If on, the boundaries appear highlighted but are not entered in the design file. You have to place them by clicking Place in the Cogo Editor.

  4. Turn Label on or off to activate or deactivate the labeling options.
  5. To start digitizing, click the Start button.
  6. Enter a data point at the beginning of your boundary, or Point of Beginning (POB).
  7. Enter a data point at the end of the boundary.

The boundary edge is drawn. The Digitizer is ready to draw your next boundary edge automatically starting from the end of your last edge.

  8. Draw as many edges as necessary to complete the parcel.

You can change the type of element placement by selecting one from the Cogo Digitizer dialog.

  9. Use the Close button to assure that the parcel boundary is properly closed. Insert mode is the Closure mode in effect. See Parcel Closing and Closing a parcel.

Remember to save the deed file from the Cogo Editor main menu if you are recording the boundary descriptions.

Note: If you turn on Send Input to Cogo Editor, you should first open a new deed file in the Cogo Editor dialog. Otherwise the new boundary descriptions will be appended to the ones already in the editor. When the parcel description is complete, save the deed file from the same menu.
